Catching my breath after a busy fall!
It was a busy summer and fall with 3 projects on the go!
I am remounting my solo Poetic License. I performed an excerpt in NYC at the Alvin Ailey City Theatre Nov 1st in a shared evening hosted by Alison Cook Beatty Dance. I also worked as a dramaturg on one of their dances- Water.
“… Erika Batdorf’s Poetic License, was the most arresting of the evening… Batdorf blurred the line beautifully between dance and performance art to present a heart-wrenching story…the character’s affecting movements … were some of the most powerful moments of the evening.” From Critical Dance — Criticaldance.org
I started a new solo, Banished, dealing with Dissociative Identity Disorder… the first truly autobiographical piece I have ever done! A 30 minute excerpt in development was shown at Aluna Theatre’s new works festival CAMINOS at Factory Theatre in October. I am extremely grateful to Trevor Schwellnus, who began working with me early on to integrate live projections and Karin Randoja, who came on board as dramaturg/director. We had a sold out show and I was moved by the overwhelmingly positive response. I am now working on the full version!
I created a solo with and for Anastasia Phillips, The Gogo Show… a super fun clown show that premiered the same weekend I did at CAMINOS- but in the Creemore Arts Festival.
I am now getting ready for a spring tour of Poetic License and continuing to work on Banished with a few other projects in early development.
There will be a TBT Intensive this summer at the Honeywood Schoolhouse Artist Retreat north of Toronto, June 15-19th (sign up early as there is only room for 10)
